All mum wanted for Christmas this year was to have her whole family together for the Ne'erday Ceilidh in Kinlochard. It wasn't too much to ask- we went two years ago and it was one of the best nights out that we have had as a family, ever.

{when she said "the whole family" she really meant it}
The ceilidh is really just a local community party but it's done so so well- it's not an accident that it's so good. The people who organise and run it are really committed to their community- it's a tiny village that most people even in central Scotland haven't really heard of or be able to pick out on the map. Everyone from the postman to the provost gets involved- and that is just the band. They open their homes, their community and really want everyone to enjoy themselves.
What I love most is that I can take my children to an event that starts at 8pm and finishes at 12am and not have to worry about them, not to have to be concerned that people will get too drunk, that they will be squashed on the dancefloor. In fact it is absolutely ok for them to ask anyone to dance with them, for even my tiny three year old to dance a progressive dance and every single person from 17 year old boy to 80 year old granny will happily partner them and enjoy doing it. That an Orcadian Strip the Willow is more fun with a five year old in the middle of it.

My biggest problem is that I am rubbish at taking pictures of people dancing.
