Every year I take part in a decoration swap with our Guiding unit. Basically, the girls opt in to the exchange of cards and decorations- the rules are simple- either the decoration is handmade or you can spend no more than a pound on it. It has made for some interesting decorations over the years, with some barely surviving the postal trip and some becoming firm favourites. This year I made some felt decorations using some scraps I had and embellishing them with scraps of ribbons and beads- most of the ribbons and beads came from clothes that were past their best and ended in the rag bag.

I suspect I saw the idea on the good old t'internet- I'm almost certain that it was on Bugs and Fishes although hers are far prettier than mine.
I also made a handful of trees using up my endless button stash. Again, I'm sure this idea was on the interwebs but where , I cannot be sure. If I stole it from you, then let me know and I'll give you the credit!

In return I received all sort of lovely things as well as decorations made by my children...

And lets be honest, who doesn't need a "Where's Wally" on their tree. I think this might ve a new favourite.
I love that the handmade is slowly starting to rival the shop bought giving our little tree a very individual look. I love opening all the envelopes as they land on the doormat and see how creative the girls have been to make their decorations and when the girls come home from school clutching their creations. It'll be sad to put them away in a few days but I look forward to getting them out again next year.
